08.05.10 -- Special Thanks to our sponsors and everyone who came out to support Chula Vista’s National Night Out 2011!
National Night Out Against Crime took place on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 8 PM at the Chula Vista Police Headquarters with an AMAZING turnout by community supporters. The event was a great night that saw over 1,500 people (up 500 people from last year) with the joining of neighbors and officers that serve our community. This annual event has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer community. Chula Vista's NNO event is one of the largest (and most fun) in the county. It featured many great displays, demonstrations and events for the whole family, including:
- An "open house" of the Police Headquarters building
- Provided tours of Police Headquarters to about 1,000
- Free food and drink from the U.S. Olympic Training Center
- A Fire Department demonstration of the "Jaws of Life"
- K-9 demonstrations every hour
- Hourly demonstrations where you can meet a police canine and see him in action
- Displays by the SWAT team, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Mobile Field Force and many others
- Free Child-ID kits for children supplied by Farmers Insurance
- Games, toys, and giveaways for children, supported by Wal-Mart and Target
- Crime prevention and resource information for adults
The primary "local" sponsor was the US Olympic Training Center, who provided food and drinks for about 1,500 people. Another key sponsor was GES Exposition Services, who supplied all the event booths, tables, chairs and other equipment. And, of course, KYXY was a key outreach partner (on-air personality Little Tommy Sablan was here as our Emcee). Lastly the "national" sponsor for the National Night Out campaign is Target.

01.20.09 -- CVPOA Releases Contract Offer
In an effort to help the City overcome projected budget shortfalls, Chula Vista Police Officers have offered to amend their employment contract and give back over $1.3 million in planned salary increases. These salary entitlements, originally scheduled to begin on January 1, 2009, would result in a 7% increase in the salary of Chula Vista officers. During tonight's meeting of the City Council several Chula Vista officers released details of a proposed amendment to that contract. The proposal would negate the salary raises and save the city over $1.3M over this and next fiscal years. "Our officers are willing to give back their salary entitlements, to help the city overcome its projected budget deficit and to protect public safety and services for the community," said Phil Collum, a Director with the Chula Vista Police Officers' Association. To date City negotiators have not accepted the proposal. The CVPOA continues to work with negotiators, and urges the city council to act quickly to accept the significant savings being offered by our officers.
